FMC is the acronym for Fixed Mobile Convergence, which converges landline and cellular network.
With FMC technology, people use their handsets as normal mobile phones in GSM outside, but when they are in office or at home, the handset used by them will be automatically switched from cellular network to PSTN or VOIP network through transparent and ‘seamless’ service, so in this way people can get more stable and continuous voice through handsets and in the meantime enjoy free mobility and appropriate costs.
Why FMC?
- There is increased usage of mobile phones even when a fixed line is within reach.
Research shows that today approximately 30% of Mobile calls are now made from the Home or Business.
- Fixed Mobile Convergence (FMC) has been driven by the obvious advantage of mobility & convenience.
- Entreprises are restricting mobile usage within the enterprise to contain costs.
- Users want the utility of a mobile phone for its number storage and its reachability.
- Revenue and usage for the fixed network is declining and, for the mobile network, is increasing.
- Mobile revenue grows but requires additional capital expenditure to cater for increased capacity.
- The existing PSTN/Copper infrastructure is becoming under-utilised because of decreasing usage.
